The ban on avocado imports is being handled obscurely by the Government and it should have never been prohibited, said Jose Manuel Quirce, the president of Crecex.
Quirce gave his support to Silvia Hernandez, a deputy who subpoenaed Dyala Jimenez, the Minister of Foreign Trade, and Renato Alvarado, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, to clarify their views on this issue.
"The country has imported more than 40 thousand metric tons of avocado from Mexico for more than 20 years and there never was a contagion, so the odds that this would happen are practically nil," said Quirce.
