According to a spokesperson, after the Spring Festival, the average price of vegetables in the Beijing Xinfadi Market fell significantly. After the recent rain and snow in Beijing, the price of vegetables has rebounded and the overall supply situation was better than last year. Under normal circumstances, the price of vegetables should drop rapidly after the holiday.
The relevant person in charge said that the self-sufficiency rate of Beijing vegetables is relatively low. In winter, the proportion of southern vegetables in Beijing's Xinfadi market will probably account for about 50%. Snowfall in Beijing has no direct impact on vegetable prices. However, low temperature and insufficient light affect the growth rate of greenhouse vegetables in the northern producing areas, resulting in a short-term decline in production which leads to a rise in vegetable prices.
Mainly the leafy vegetables in the northern producing areas have gone through the price rise. Once the temperature rises and the sunlight is sufficient, the production will increase and the vegetable price will fall.
