Data from the Haikou Price Bureau shows that the purchase prices of 10 kinds of leaf vegetables changed considerably in recent weeks. The purchase prices began to come down on February 7th, 2019.
A spokesperson for the Price Bureau explained that there are many factors in the creation of price fluctuations, for example, trade slows down as many businesses close during Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019]. Haikou Vegetable Market had abundant stock prepared for Spring Festival, and then the demand decreased, while vegetable production increased as a result of excellent weather conditions. With excessive supply came lower prices. In middle to late February, however, most buyers have resumed business and with the rise in demand comes a rise in prices. This slowly relieves the financial pressure on farmers that comes with low purchase prices.
