Core Tip: It is cherry season again, and Northwest Cherries are making a grand appearance.
It is cherry season again, and Northwest Cherries are making a grand appearance. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) agriculture specialist Abdul Ghani Wahab launched the “Cheers to Cherries” campaign at the Tesco store in Kuala Lumpur.

The campaign is being held by Northwest Cherries in partnership with fitness guru Kevin Zahari and retail chain Tesco. Abdul Ghani said it was not easy to grow good quality cherries as they required semi-arid  climate: “Northwest Cherries have 11 varieties and we believe they are the most delicious cherries in the world. We hope more Malaysians will try these juicy fruits while they are in season until end of August.”

Northwest Cherry Growers Market representative Retna Malar said the cherries were grown across many regions in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Montana. These regions offered fresh harvest all summer since the small differences in microclimates allowed the cherries to ripen at different times throughout the season, she said.

She also told that the industry had invested millions of dollars in post-harvest facilities to ensure the cold chain of the fruit was optimum throughout the supply chain.
