Special teams formed under the Tandrust Punjab Mission conducted checks at fruit and vegetable markets across Punjab. They destroyed over 11.3 tons of fruit and vegetables found unfit for human consumption. 

Of this total, 4 tons were destroyed in Amritsar alone. Other places from where fruit and vegetables were destroyed include Ferozepur, Bathinda. Faridkot. Jagraon, Mansa. Ludhiana. Khanna, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Rupnagar, Anandpur Sahib. Balachaur, Batala. Patiala, Phagwara, Kharar, Sunam. Sirhind and Malerkotla.

Teams constituted at divisional-district-and at the market committee-level, conducted surprise checks at 75 fruit and vegetable markets. The teams comprising of the officials of the Health Department and the Horticulture Department searched the mandis for rotten and unscientifically ripened fruits and vegetables, said Tandrust Punjab Mission director K.S. Pannu.
