It had already been reported that after last year's record volume, this year's apple production would be considerably reduced. Now it appears that fruit sizes will also be smaller in those places where growers didn't have sufficient resources for irrigation.

However, the Director of the Fruit and Vegetable Product Board, István Hunyad, said that this issue is not a national problem.

According to the expert, in addition to the lack of rainfall, there is another factor at play which will have an impact on this year's yield: last year's huge production. Those trees that were loaded last year will yield less this time. "Last season, we said that the trees were overloaded, and this is what the plant is trying to compensate for," said István Hunyad.

According to a preliminary survey, it is already clear that there will be fewer apples this year. The Hungarian Interprofessional Organization for Fruit and Vegetables has estimated the total production at 450,000 tons, although this figure may still be revised upwards or downwards, even after the harvest.
