Carrots are the most popular vegetable in Switzerland. The Swiss ate almost 7 kilos of them per person per year last year. Tomatoes are in second place. If cherry tomatoes were included, they would even displace carrots from the top position.
The lion's share of the carrots traded on the Swiss market came from domestic cultivation, while in the case of tomatoes, around half of the total volume was produced in Switzerland. With a market share of just over five percent, peppers round out the top 3. Other top sellers in Swiss trade include watermelons, cucumbers, onions and iceberg lettuce.
