Del Monte Foods to close peach processing plant in US

Zoom in font  Zoom out font Published: 2012-05-17  Origin: FBR
Core Tip: Del Monte Foods plans to close its peach processing plant in Kingsburg, California, a move which will lead to a loss of 70 full-time jobs and 1,100 season jobs.
The Kingsburg plant is designed to process peaches, which are then packed into metal cans. The company is closing the plant in order to consolidate its peach processing operations into once facility in Modesto.

The Kingsburg facility will remain operational until all its contents have been shipped, which is expected to be completed by summer 2013. However, the company noted that it will continue to source peaches from growers in the Kingsburg-area.

While the Modesto plant may see an increase in the number of job positions, the company has not disclosed the number. The Modesto facility currently employs 500 full-time and 1,200 seasonal workers.
