The event, which is supported with funding by the USDA Market Access Program (MAP), the Nebraska Beef Council, the Pork Checkoff and the Illinois Soybean Association, was a follow-up to a showcase held a year ago in Panama.
According to USMEF, more than 50 buyers from 10 countries throughout central and south America took part in the event, giving US exporters an opportunity to provide a window to showcase their products.
One exporter taking part was Howard Milner, owner of Dallas-based Mercer Meat Company, who also participated in the Panama event. He said: “Prior to the Panama showcase, our main customer base was in Mexico. We picked up several new accounts at the Panama event and grew our Central American business by 50%.”
The second annual Latin American Product Showcase, organised by the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF), took place in Bogotá and some of the western hemisphere’s top red meat industry buyers and sellers took part.
