Core Tip: Winning new business is tough at any time but particularly challenging during a recession. One food manufacturer dedicated to the challenge is Wigan-based pie maker Poole’s Pies.
In this exclusive podcast, the firm’s operations manager David Rawstron explained how expanding product ranges and responding to retailers’ requirements were the keys to expansion in the current economic climate.

Rawstron – who is part of the management team that took over the firm in July – said that expanding the business was a challenge, but a not an impossibility.

In this podcast, he explained how the firm won new business with frozen food company Iceland. Rawstron revealed how Poole’s developed its own-label range to include three new fruit pies and crumbles, while continuing to produce it's traditional range of savoury pies.

Watch out for our profile of Rawstron in the Me and My Factory feature to be published in the November edition of our sister title Food Manufacture.
