Iceland catch value up 7.2%

fishThe total value of catch of Icelandic vessels totaled ISK 122.8 billion (USD 980 million, EUR 737 million) for the first nine months of the 2012, up from ISK 145 billion (USD 1.2 billion, EUR 870 million) during the same time period in 2011.

According to data from Statistics Iceland, value increased by 7.2 percent year-over-year.

Total value of demersal species accounted for ISK 71.5 billion (USD 599 million, EUR 450 million). Of that, cod accounted for ISK 36.5 billion (USD 287 million, EUR 216 million), haddock for ISK 9.3 billion (USD 74 million, EUR 56 million) and redfish for ISK 10.3 billion (USD 82 million, EUR 62 million).

Total value of pelagic species accounted for ISK 38 billion (USD 303 million, EUR 228 million) and flatfish catches for ISK 8.6 billion (USD 69 million, EUR 52 million).
