The Chilean province of Bío Bío announced it suffered a loss of 80% of its cherry crops, due to heavy rains earlier this week. Growers worry as more rain is expected.

Fruit expert Jaime Ugarte stated that blueberries and kiwis were also affected, and that real profits are no longer expected in the region. The cherry harvest is considered a near-total loss.

Agricultural adviser of Seremi Bio Bio, Jose Manuel Rebolledo, will soon try to establish a possible compensation quotient to accommodate growers.
