Russia is one of the new export destinations for Peruvian table grapes due to their increasing demand and promotion strategies, Peru's Association of Table Grape Growers (Provid) has said.
Head of Provid Jose Antonio Castro noted that the Russian market is gaining importance in Peru and accounts for 12 percent of Peruvian exports.
Peru exported 133,660 tons of table grapes, amounting to US$322 million between September 2011 and March 2012, he told Andina news agency.
In the 2012/2013 campaign, Peru expects a 20 percent increase in volume compared to the previous period (around US$400 million).
Meanwhile, in 2012 table grape exports totaled US$334 million, a climb of 13.6 percent over a year earlier (US$294 million) according to Peruvian Association of Agricultural Producers (AGAP).
