Exports of Lebanese wines to the UK have increased by 33% to $4.3m in 2012, as compared to 2011 figures during which the sales of wines had increased by 26% to $3.2m.

Among all the major countries, the UK was the fastest growing export market for Lebanese wines in 2012. Total exports to the UK was increased by 7.9% to $14.3m, whereas sales in the US and France went up by 29.8% to $1.9m and by 4.8% to $2.4m, respectively.

According to the Lebanon's association of wine producers, the Union Vinicole du Liban (UVL), the increase in exports was primarily due to funding in marketing program in the UK since 2010.

Lebanon-based wine exporter Domaine des Tourelles owner Faouzi Issa, on behalf of the UVL, said, "The figures demonstrate that in markets where we as wineries invest significant time and money, we are beginning to reap the benefits."

According to Issa, the group will now visit to Prowein in Germany to showcase wines from 11 of its members.
