Café Coffee Day (CCD), a division of India-based coffee conglomerate Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading, plans to open 300 new cafés across India in 2013 to compete with global giants such as Barista Lavazza, Costa Coffee and Starbucks.
CCD, which currently operates over 1,410 outlets across the country, serves espresso, latte and cappuccino to customers.
The move is part of the company's strategy to open 2,000 cafés by the end of 2014.
Marketing president K Ramakrishnan said that the Bangalore-based retail chain plans to open outlets in all formats - cafés, lounges, kiosks and even the large-format 'squares' at corporate areas, educational institutions and airports.
"We are already present in all big cities. So we will be looking to expand our presence in tier II and III cities. But our total number of outlets will be equally distributed between big and small cities," Ramakrishnan added.
"We are already present at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. We will also be looking to expand the numbers."
