Monster Beverage, a California-based marketer and distributor of energy drinks and alternative beverages, has reported 21% increase in net sales to $2.061bn for the year ended 31 December 2012 compared to $1.703bn a year ago.
Net sales for the three-months ended 31 December 2012 rose by 15% to $471.5m from $410m in the prior year period.
Net income for the 12 months of 2012 was up by 18.8% to $340m compared to $286.2m in 2011.
During the 2012 fourth quarter, net income increased 5.3% to $68m from $64.5m in the same quarter last year.
Chairman and chief executive officer Rodney Sacks said that while the growth of the US energy drink market has slowed down from earlier quarters, the Monster Energy brand continues to grow in excess of market growth.
"We are also pleased to report that in 2012 gross sales outside the United States for the Company exceeded $500 million. We successfully launched the Monster Energy(R) brand in a number of new international markets in the last few months and are continuing with new launches in 2013," Sacks added.
"The Company's energy drinks are safe, based on both the Company's and the industry's long successful track record and the scientific evidence supporting the safety of Monster Energy's(R) ingredients."
Besides energy drinks, Monster markets and distributes Worx Energy shots, and Peace Tea iced teas, Hansen's natural sodas, apple juice and juice blends, multi-vitamin juices, Junior Juice beverages, Blue Sky beverages, Hubert's Lemonades, Vidration vitamin enhanced waters and PRE Probiotic drinks.
