The jobs of 60 Coca-Cola employees in Sacramento are up in the air after the company announced it will be closing its south Sacramento bottling plant.
CBS13 spoke to a Coca-Cola spokesperson who confirmed the Oak Park plant will close, but said the company is negotiating with the union to determine exactly when that will happen. The spokesperson also said the company has not decided if employees will be offered severance packages or if they will be reassigned to a different plant.
A plant employee for 41 years, Les Linton said he received a call from his boss on Wednesday night with the bad news.
“It was just disappointing. I thought we would keep going for a while, but that’s life,” said Les.
Les says the equipment in the plant is outdated, and said it got even worse after the company bought the Natomas plant about two months ago.
“Just the way things were going,” said Linton. “It’s old and there’s newer facilities that make more money probably.”
Les says his wife is retired and still has an income, but he’s feeling bad for employees because they probably won’t know what to do.
Employees showed up to work as usual today knowing there won’t be too many work days left.
Managers at other Coca-Cola plants are also meeting with employees, but haven’t said what those meetings are about.
The workers at the Coca-Cola plant in Natomas are not impacted by the Oak Park plant closure.
