Core Tip: Camila and Amara are the first two remontant blackberries of Hortifrut's genetic improvement program.
Cblackberryamila and Amara are the first two remontant blackberries of Hortifrut's genetic improvement program.

Camila is a remontant blackberry with thorny stems, very productive, with fruits of 8 to 10 grams, sweet and very tasty.

Amara is the first non-thorny remontant variety in the world, with large, shiny, sweet fruit of slightly later harvest than the Camila.

One of Hortifrut's main goals is to produce new and better berries for Chile and the world. Remontant blackberries are a revolution in this fruit's industry, as they make it possible to expand their availability period and expand their production in new areas worldwide.

Their agronomic handling, similar to that of remontant raspberries, will improve their performance per hectare, making their production more profitable for our growers.

Their superior quality compared to already existing varieties will allow for the opening of new markets.

These two new varieties are the first in a series that Hortifrut will release in the coming years. They are the result of an improvement program developed in partnership with the University of Arkansas.

In Chile, these blackberries will enable the supply of high quality, tasty fruit from the last week of November until mid-May.
