Core Tip: Manda Fine Meats will resume distribution of deli and specialty meat products that were recalled in April.
Manda Fine Meats will resume distribution of deli and specialty meat products that were recalled in April.

The company recalled approximately 20,166 lbs. of cooked roast beef deli meat and another 468,000 lbs. of roast beef, ham, turkey breast, tasso pork, ham shanks, hog head cheese, corned beef and pastrami due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Currently, Manda has secured alternative USDA-approved facilities to produce its roast beef, ham, turkey breast, hog-head cheese, corned beef and pastrami. The company's sausage products are produced at a different facility in Baton Rouge and were never affected by the recall.

“Manda is greatly appreciative of the support we have received from our customers,” said Bobby Yarborough, CEO of Manda, in a statement. “We have made safe, wholesome meat products for 66 years. We’re very happy to be able to continue that legacy, and we thank our community and our loyal customers for giving us the support to do so.”

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service and the company received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of any products affected by the recalls. The company said that a thorough investigation and environmental study was conducted at its Baker, La., facility immediately following the recall. Only one of the 171 environmental samples taken was of potential concern. Therefore, the Baker facility will remain idle while the company evaluates its future production needs.

“Making sure our facilities go above and beyond industry food-safety standards is a priority for Manda Fine Meats. One questionable sample is one too many,” said Yarborough.

Manda is a third-generation, family owned business based in Baton Rouge. The company has been producing meat products since 1947, according to the company's web site.
