The growth of wine consumption in the US during 2011-16 will be 2% more than that in 2006-11, according to a report by Canadean Wine & Spirits.
The report, "The Future of the Wine Market in the US, to 2016," says that the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the 2011-16 period will be 2.78% as against 0.78% during the previous five years.
Fortified wine will grow by 7.8%, still wine 2.64% and sparkling wine 2.68%. The growth rates of the three categories during 2006-11 were 3.01%, 0.77% and 0.16% respectively.
The year-on-year growth of wine consumption in the US will increase between 2013 and 2016. The market will grow by 1.6% in 2013, 1.8% in 2014, 2% in 2015 and 2.2% in 2016. There has been a marginally positive growth since 2006 but in 2007 and 2009 it was negative.
Still wine will continue to form a major part of the market but with a lesser share of 90.8% in 2016 than 91.4% in 2011.The share of sparkling wine will remain static at 6.1% while that of fortified wine will increase to 3.1% in 2016 from 2.5% in 2011.
