Coca-Cola FEMSA has initiated the construction of a new $200m bottling plant in the non-alcoholic beverage cluster of FEMSA Industrial Park in Tocancipá County, Cundinamarca, Colombia.
The company will achieve sustainability standards and Leed certification for the plant making it green in design and technology.
The new plant will enable the company to meet the demand expected from the implementation of new market development strategies and will join its current bottling plants in Bogotá, Medellín, Bucaramanga, Barranquilla, Cali and La Calera.
To be operational by the end of 2014, the plant will initially have an installed capacity for 50 million unit cases, which will be expanded to 290 million liters further.
It is expected to create 150 direct jobs during its first operating stage.
Coca-Cola FEMSA CEO Jose Antonio Fernandez said: "In starting construction of the plant, we are reiterating our commitment to participating in the development of the country, we ratify the links of reciprocity that allow us to promote new investments that create economic, social and environmental value for Colombians."
