UK retailer Waitrose is to introduce a Turkish wine range to its customers for the first time.
Waitrose has sourced Pamukkale Diamond, a red wine made with Shiraz and Merlot grapes, blended with the lesser known, indigenous Turkish grape varieties of Kalecik Karasi and Boğazkere.
Ken Mackay, Waitrose Wine Buying Manager comments, “Our shoppers have an adventurous palate, so it's important we keep challenging them by scouring the world for new and interesting wines."
"In previous years we’ve launched wines from India, China and Brazil. With the introduction of Pamukkale Diamond perhaps Turkey will soon be as famous for its red wine as it is for its mouthwatering mezzes."
According to the supermarket, Waitrose will be the only British supermarket to stock a Turkish wine.
Pamukkale Diamond is exclusive to Waitrose and is priced at £7.99 during the Waitrose Wine Showcase. The Showcase which contains more than 60 wines from across the world, runs from 2nd September until the 8th October.
