South African packaging manufacturer Nampak has commissioned a new plastic closures line in the Ikeja industrial area in Lagos state, Nigeria, as part of its partnership with German plastic closure manufacturer Bericap.
Under its long-standing strategic partnership with Nampak, Bericap agreed to extend the manufacturing licence to include Nampak Nigeria.
The Lagos site features two Netstal 48 cavity injection moulders, which have a capacity to produce around 220 million closures.
The site will initially manufacture closures for still water and later for carbonated soft drinks.
Nampak Rigid Plastics' unit Nampak Closures in South Africa has offered technical assistance during the purchase of the injection moulders.
Nampak Nigeria Lagos currently employs more than 300 permanent and contract staff.
The company is targeting local Nigerian market, Coca Cola, Seven-Up, Nestle and SABMiller, with further plans to export to Ghana and other neighbouring countries.
