The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said fruit and vegetable exports are expected to reach export turnover growth of 20-30 per cent by year end, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
Last year, Vietnam earned about US$1.04 billion from fruit and vegetable exports, a year-on-year increase of 25 per cent, statistics from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association show.
The largest importer was China, which accounted for 27.6 per cent of market share, followed by Japan with 5.59 per cent and the US with 4.7 per cent.
Total fruit and vegetable exports grew from US$628 million in 2011 to US$829 million in 2012 before surpassing the billion dollar mark last year.
Popular export products include dragon fruit, grapefruit and frozen and canned vegetables.
