Pineapple exports from Panama amounted to USD $44.1 million in 2013, 18% more than in 2012, when they totalled USD $37.1 million.
2013 became the best year for Panama's pineapple exports, since exports of this fruit between 2009 and 2012 ranged between 31 and 37 million dollars, unable to overcome the USD $40 million mark.
Within agricultural crops, pineapple exports are only surpassed by banana exports, which recorded an export value of $90.6 million dollars; but are above melon and watermelon exports, which amounted to USD $4 million and $16 million respectively.
Panamanian exports amounted to U.S. $ 843.9 million last year, $22.1 million dollars more than in 2012, when they totalled 821.8 million dollars.
Last year's Panamanian exports were headed by bananas, which displaced gold as the country's main export.
