Sealord on Monday said it will more than double its fresh Marine Stewardship Council-certified hoki sales this year in Australia as a result of a deal with Woolworths.
For Sealord, the deal represents several million dollars of new export business and an important step in the company’s growth agenda in Australia. Sealord’s frozen products have been sold through Woolworths for more than 20 years.
Sealord is aggressively promoting hoki in export markets.
“Australians love seafood and hoki’s sustainability credentials, its value for money and delicate taste make it a great addition to Woolworths fresh fish counters,” said Jason Plato, general manager of Sealord’s consumer business.
“Woolworths consumers in Australia have embraced Sealord for many years and this expanded partnership between an iconic New Zealand company and Australia’s fresh food people makes perfect sense,” said Tjeerd Jegen, Woolworths managing director of supermarkets and petrol.
