In 2013, Spain exported a total of 266,408 tonnes of strawberries which generated 467 million Euro in revenue, according to data provided by the General Customs Directorate of the Ministry of Economy.
Compared to 2012, export volumes have dropped by around 7%, while their value has fallen by approximately 10.5%. Of the production exported, 85% (225,463 tonnes) were grown in the province of Huelva, which devoted 6,980 hectares to the crop this season.
The main destinations for Spanish strawberries were the European markets, fundamentally Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy.
The only European market where strawberry export volumes increased in 2013 was the UK, which imported 26,243 tonnes; 11% more than in 2012.
