Norwegian seafood company Austevoll has purchased a new transport system from an American company for its Atlantic salmon processing plant in Storebø.

Austevoll is using a 140-meter system created by Whooshh Innovations of Bellevue, Wash., for transporting fish from the slaughter/gutting line to a filleting station.

The system, which will be suspended from the ceiling of the Austevoll plant, is expected to transport the fish the entire 140 meters in less than 30 seconds. The system will also reduce handling and usage of machinery such as forklifts.

“Increasingly, the global seafood industry is looking for ways to streamline production processes as well as find innovative ways to move their valuable product, whether live or mort,” said Whooshh CEO Vincent Bryan. “We’re pleased that Austevoll has chosen the Whooshh System not only as a way to save space in the plant but also as a way to improve efficiencies—such as moving away from labor-intensive steps that include loading salmon into totes, covering the product in ice, transporting with forklifts, and then unloading everything again.”
