Hatcheries in the 19 state weekly program set 206 million eggs in incubators during the week. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 percent, according to NASS.

For the week ending May 31, broiler growers in the 19 state weekly program placed 166 million chicks for meat production, down 1 percent from a year ago. Cumulative placements from Dec. 29, 2013, through May 31 were down slightly at 3.76 billion chicks.
