French retailing giant Auchan has reached an agreement to purchase 12 hypermarkets and commercial galleries in Romania.
Auchan is one of the biggest supermarket operators in the country with sales of more than €1 billion per year.
The premises are located in Bucharest, Timisoara, Satu Mare, Oradea, Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Constanta and Galati.
The deal is estimated to be worth around €280 million, according to Ziarul Financiar.
The total area of the sites is about 200,000 sqm.
The stores operating in the shopping centers generate around €500 million in yearly sales.
The rents for the 12 shopping centres are around €30 million, said Ziarul Financiar.
Real hypermarkets were previously located in all the shopping centres.
Auchan purchased the Real business in the country from German group Metro last year.
The 2013 deal included 20 Real hypermarkets of the 24 in the country.
Auchan operates 31 hypermarkets in Romania.
