The Russian embargo on Polish fruit and vegetables could spread to all the EU countries. For Lithuania, as a large re exporter of these products, such a decision means a significant reduction in trade and logistics companies’ turnover, - a Lithuanian newspaper Verslo Zinios informs Friday.
It is noted that the embargo would seriously affect Lithuanian farmers who grow carrots, as Moscow is one the main and most profitable markets.
Thousands of refridgerated-truck drivers would become unemployed. According to the Lithuanian logistics company Linavos, there are over 8000 trucks that deliver fruit, vegetables and flowers to Russia.
It is to be recalled that the embargo on potatoes from the EU into Russia has been imposed for the last few years due to quarantine diseases. On August, 1st, Russia imposed an embargo on fruit and vegetables from Poland due to numerous violations of quality standards.
