The prices of major farm produce in China fell slightly last week despite rises in meats and fish according to a survey of prices in 36 medium and large cities by the Ministry of Commerce MOFCOM.

The price of pork was up 0.7 per cent while beef and mutton remained the same.

The average price of aquatic products was up 0.2 per cent with small yellow croaker, large yellow croaker and crucian up 1.6 per cent, 0.5 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively.

The price of poultry and eggs saw some increase, with chicken up 0.5 per cent and eggs up 1.6 per cent.

The average wholesale price of 18 vegetables went down 1.2 per cent compared with that of the previous week, with eggplant, bitter gourd and tomato down 6.3 per cent, 5.3 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively week on week.

The price of edible oil fell, with soybean oil and rapeseed oil down 0.7 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively compared to the previous week, while the price of peanut oil remained the same.

While the price of grain was generally steady there was a slight fall with the price of rice down 0.2 per cent week on week and flour remaining unchanged.
