New Zealand’s Blue Sky Meats has acquired Gore-based Clover Export in a bid to offer better services to its customers.

With this acquisition, Blue Sky Meats can offer processing capacity in beef and venison. It will also help the company to attract new suppliers, The National Business Review reported.

Blue Sky will continue to process Clover's horse meat on a toll basis for sale into the European market, post this deal.

Blue Sky Meats chairman Graham Cooney was quoted by the news agency as saying:"This acquisition allows us to process all species for our clients.

"This purchase effectively removes an export license holder out of the New Zealand processing scene and therefore assists industry rationalisation."

Although financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, Clover will be about 10-15% of the size of Blue Sky in terms of turnover, said Cooney.
