“Thanks to the efforts undertaken by a group of producers, exporters, traders and the fruit promoters, the positive results are being confirmed after having exceeded the 4,000 containers […],” Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva told.
“Peru is on its way towards becoming the second largest Chinese market’s grape supplier, surpassing the U.S.,” the Minister highlighted. According to Silva, the grape’s “presence is to delight Chinese consumers.”
The said result is due to the “constant” work carried out by the government on promoting and exporting the fruit to China.
Same efforts will be undertaken to export mangoes, citrus, asparagus and avocados. It must be noted the said fruit sanitary protocol has been recently signed by China Prime Minister Li Keqiang during his visit to Peru.
In order to consolidate exports to China, an agriculture specialist is to join the Peru Trade Office in Beijing soon.
In addition to fruits and vegetables, direct human consumption products, such as milk and organic maca also have a great potential, the Minister added.
Thru 2010, the U.S. was the main destination for Peruvian grapes. However, the fruit was progressively directed to other Asian markets, such as China.
Also, the last exporting campaign confirmed Thailand became the fifth export destination for Peruvian grapes, following China, the U.S., Netherlands and the U.K.
