Shortages
He expects there to be problems with other products within a few weeks, for instance iceberg lettuce and broccoli. "Spain is ahead of the harvest due to the heat and this could cause shortages further in the season."
When it comes to other Spanish vegetables there are 'ups and downs'. "Courgettes were very expensive at the start of this week, but prices are starting to drop a bit now. There are too many Moroccan courgettes and this is why the Spanish growers can't dream of high prices for too long. Especially France is switching to Moroccan products quickly when the price difference with Spain is too high. The quality might not be the same, but price plays an important role," he concludes.
