After a fruitless meeting between Greek agricultural producers and the Minister of Labour, Giórgo Katroúnkalo, representatives of the Panhellenic Federation of Associations of Agricultural Producers set up street markets as part of the mobilizations to protest against the increase in social security contributions.
As stated by producers, a possible increase in their contributions could lead to the destruction of the rural world and the primary production sector. "We're not saying we do not want to pay our taxes, but after the income tax and social security contributions, a grower with an income of 5,000 Euro could be paying 4,000 Euro," said the president of the Federation, Pantelís Móschos
From early morning, producers were set up a small street market in front of the Ministry of Labour where they distributed free products to passers-by as a symbolic move.
