The first British cucumbers arrived on UK supermarket shelves last week. According to data prepared by ProduceView, Asda and Sainsbury's had the first British cucumbers available. Spain is still the preferred supplier of cucumbers to most British supermarkets; Co-op, M&S, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl all have Spanish cucumbers available this week, while Dutch cucumbers can be found at Morrisons and Tesco. Prices were between 39 pence (Aldi, Lidl) and 48 pence (Morissons).
The British cucumbers are still the only salad vegetables available on UK retailers' shelves. Spain is also dominant in the mixed pepper category; all of the bell peppers in the British supermarkets this week come from Spain. An exception is made for a few Dutch and Israeli bell peppers at Sainsbury's.
Morocco and Spain are dominant as well in regards to the supply of cherry tomatoes, but Italian cherry tomatoes are also available at Co-op.
