On 31st May, only one day left before fishing ban, the last boats which carried out the last catch shipped back to ports in Qingdao, Shandong. Buyers rush to purchase the fishes once the ships stopped at the port. All kinds of seafood were sold out in just a few minutes.
“The price of crabs, gobies and octopus almost doubled, but the supply still couldn’t meet the demand”, one fisherman stated at Tianhengdao port, Jimo, Shandong.
One 200 meters-long temporary seafood market was formed at Tianhengdao port on 31st May. According to local farmers, the boats of fish was their last catch. One farmer sold two crabs at an unit price of 100 yuan. Some farmers caught a few yellow croakers and yellow-head catfish. But their price doubled that the fishes were bought by customers at 45 yuan/jin in no time.
Mr. Wang, a local buyers who owns a small restaurant in Tianhengdao, said that the fish price was no so high several days ago but the price had just doubled because of the upcoming fishing moratorium. He would still purchase some fishes with high price because of there was market demand.
It’s known that a total of 9, 538 fishing boats are under the governance of Qingdao authority, among which 5, 700 boats, including ocean fishing vessels, auxiliary fishery boats and other boats to stop the operation, will suspend the fishing until the moratorium ends. Relative fishing vessels must ship back to provincial ports which they come from before 12 O’clock, 1st June. According to regulations and laws, the ship which holds fishing license will be fined up to 50, 000 yuan and its fishery oil allowance will also be deducted if the ship carries out illegal fishing during the summer fishing moratorium.
