Argentina's Red Globe grape production is falling every year. While about 18% of the country's total production corresponded to this variety in 2011, today it is estimated that less than half of those fields are still used for this crop. "The lack of competitiveness and the climate changes have resulted in this table grape variety being gradually abandoned by our growers. The high costs we have due to inflation have prevented our grapes from having a competitive price compared to those from other producing countries, such as Peru and Chile," states Néstor Castro, of Early Grapes.

"With the change of government there has been a slight improvement of the sector's prospects, but producers had stopped investing in their fields because of the political situation we had in recent years. At present, they are carrying out projects to recover these lands and considering the cultivation of new crop varieties with better returns in order to encourage the export of our grapes," affirms Castro.

The main (potential) markets for Argentina's table grape production would be European countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Russia, as well as Brazil, which is the main consumer of South American grapes from neighbouring countries.
