To encourage cultivation of vegetables under controlled atmosphere, Punjab government has empanelled five firms to assist farmers to set up polyhouses and polynet houses in their fields. The state government will provide subsidy on the greenhouse structures erected by these firms.
The empanelled firms include Earth Agro Structures, Farming Solutions, M.F. Agro & Export, Poly Agro Engineers and E.P.C. Industries Ltd. Nasik.
A government spokesperson said that the state government has established the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Kartarpur where training to farmers in the latest techniques in protected cultivation is imparted throughout the year.
Besides, horticulture development officers in each district have been sensitising farmers about the techniques of protected cultivation of vegetables. Hybrid vegetable seedlings are also being provided to farmers at district level, the spokesperson said.
