Core Tip: With light supplies on several sizes of Mexican lemons, prices for imports have been good.
With light supplies on several sizes of Mexican lemons, prices for imports have been good. Importers along the border are eager to get into good volumes to take advantage of the current market.

On August 12, prices for a carton of Fancy 115s from Mexico were between $29.00 and $32.00 at crossings through Texas, and prices for a carton of 140s were between $26.00 and $30.00. Supplies for 95s through 115s were light, and prices for 140s were reported as fairly light.

“Demand has been pretty good,” said Juan Carlos Chavez with R.C.F. Distributors. “We just don't have enough product for our customers asking for it.” Chavez said they work with a grower in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora who supplies them with a blend of choice and fancy lemons. Rains delayed harvesting there by about a week, so they're eager for shipments to arrive in order to take advantage of current prices.

“Prices are pretty good,” said Chavez. “It's a short deal, just about a month and a half, so we just wish it was a little longer.”
