Pork with asthma drugs was exposed in Hong Kong market previously, and the government admitted mistakes on August 19th. It was the government failure that led to some retailer’s purchase and sales of problematic pork unknowingly and affected public confidence in fresh pork. The government apologized to the citizen and relevant owns about the incident and promised to pay compensation to 27 retailers.


Qingdao Customs announced a seafood smuggling case on August 21st seized shortly before. The professional smuggling gang smuggled more than 5000 tons of high-grade seafood including king crab in recent two years by offshore procurement, smuggling keeping away from the Customs and domestic sales, and total value involved in the case reached up to 230 million yuan. Some of the smuggled seafood was from Fukushima Japan, while AQSIQ announced Announcement No. 44 in 2011 and banned import of foods, edible agricultural products and feed from 12 counties in Japan nuclear leak areas including Fukushima-ken, Gunma-ken and Tochigi Prefecture, etc.
