People who traveled abroad liked to bring back some foreign specialties, including seafood, to give relatives or friends as gifts or for self-use. However, not all foreign goods or commodities you bought were allowed to gain access into your own country. Recently, airport branch of Yanbian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in Jilin province checked and distrained batches of aquatic products.
Airport staff from the Bureau carried out routine check against packages of passengers gaining access into China by flight KE825 and found that a Chinese passenger carried a lot of aquatic products in his luggage. A total of 20.1kg aquatic products, including 2.3kg shark fins, 8.0kg fresh grouper, 4.5kg dry sea cucumber, 5.3kg fresh sea cucumber, were checked and intercepted.
Inquired by airport staff, the passenger stated that the batch of seafood was bought in The Republic of The Fiji Islands and the flight departed from Fiji and transferred in South Korea. According to No. 1, 712 Announcement issued by Ministry of Agriculture and General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China, passengers were prohibited from carrying or mailing foreign aquatic products unless allowed by relevant administrations or certified by authorities of origin of place.
The Bureau immediately gave legal interpretation to the passenger after the seafood was intercepted, and destroyed them according to legal procedures later.
It’s the second time that Yanbian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has inspected and intercepted illegally-carried aquatic products from Fiji this year while shark fins was intercepted for the first time.
