The Peruvian asparagus campaign is coming to an end, and although the season's official results are still unknown, the latest figures reveal that, up to October, exports had fallen by 8% compared to last year. The total FOB value of fresh export exceeds 309 million, which is 4% less than in 2015.
These data can be corroborated with statements from Peruvian producers, who pointed out that "the campaign has not been as good as expected, also when compared to previous years." It is believed that this is mainly due to the rather unfavourable climatic and seasonal changes. They also state that "prices have remained stable for most of the campaign, but in recent weeks there has been an increase of 10-15%."
As of October, 62% of Peruvian asparagus has been shipped to the United States, 12% to the UK, 10% to the Netherlands and 7% to Spain. The remaining 9% is divided between 28 other countries worldwide, mostly in Europe.
