Avocado exports from Michoacan to Japan have fallen by 32% so far this year when compared to the same period last year, according to reports from the Association of Producers and Packers Exporters of Avocado (APEAM).
According to a report released by the association, up until August this year, Michoacan has exported 23,907 tons of avocado to Japan, while, in the same period of 2016, it had exported 35,086 tons to that destination.
The volume exported to Japan in February this year were higher than last year, but in the remaining seven months, exports were lower than in 2016.
So far in August, producers have only exported 878 tons, while in 2016 they had exported 4,442 tons.
Avocado producers estimate that the total volume exported to Japan in 2016, 49,601 tons, will hardly be reached.
