Core Tip: The onion markets throughout China were severely depressed in the first half of this year.
"Most of the yellow onions currently on the market come from Gansu production areas, while red onions mainly come from Shandong production areas, and large red onions mainly come from Gansu and Inner Mongolia. As for the price, while the price of yellow onions shows an upward trend, the price of red onions remains low."

"The onion markets throughout China were severely depressed in the first half of this year. The export price was relatively low, however, current markets have gradually recovered. The export volume is visibly growing. The export price is also better than last year around the same time." This is according to Xue Cuncai of Jinxiang County Cuncai Agricultural Trade Co., Ltd.

"The export price of onions showed a clear upward trend in recent weeks. This is particularly true for yellow onions from Gansu production areas. This development is mainly due to strong European demand for onions. European onion production, in particular in the Netherlands, suffered from poor weather conditions. The reduced production volume is insufficient to satisfy European market demand."

"Our onions come from Jinxiang County. They are mainly destined for export to the Middle East, Israel, Iraq, Austria, the Netherlands, and South Africa."
