According to Muhammad Nawaz Maiken, director of Citrus Research Institute Sargodha (CRIS), kinnow growers are facing problems due to the recent rains and uncertain weather conditions. Meeting export targets is becoming exceedingly very difficult for them. Last year, Rs40 billion (€253 mln) worth of kinnows was exported.
He stated that the shelf life of the kinnows has been reduced due to the rains, a situation that has a negative impact on kinnow exports. The current rains will probably be beneficial for the kinnow orchards in the next season. The director said that CRIS was making efforts to solve the problems of the growers.
Brecorder.com reports how the growers demand that the government gives this matter a priority. Currently, some farmers are reluctant to maintain their orchards due to this crisis.
