McAllen Cold Storage of McAllen, Texas, is recalling about 51,942 pounds of frozen Siluriformes (catfish) products, more specifically Basa fillets, that were not presented for re-inspection at the United States Border, according to the USDA. No adverse reactions or illnesses have been reported to the company or the government to date.

These frozen Basa fillets were imported from Vietnam to the U.S. on dates ranging from August 1, 2018 to February 15, 2019. These are the products that are being recalled:

22-opund white cardboard cases containing 5-7 ounce pieces of “bwi® FROZEN PANGASIUS (BASA) FILLETS SKINLESS & BONELESS” with case code “BWI 134833” and a use by date of 31/05/2020.
22-pound white cardboard cases containing 7-9 ounce pieces of “bwi® FROZEN PANGASIUS (BASA) FILLETS SKINLESS & BONELESS” with case code “BWI 134858” and use by date of 01/06/2020.

These products were distributed by McAllen Cold Storage, the importer of Record, with the establishment number “EST. V21273.” The fish was shipped to wholesale and retail locations in Texas. The fillets may have been removed from these boxes and placed in seafood display cases for consumer purchase. If you aren’t sure whether or not you purchased these items, check with your retailer.

Check your freezer to see if you have any frozen catfish fillets. If you did purchase these fish fillets, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a double bagged or sealed package in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
