Carlos Luis Morales, the prefect of the province of Guayas, announced within the framework of the three-year celebration of the Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec) that they had worked together with the Ministry of Agriculture to make a plan to decrease the risk of the Fusarium race 4 (FocRT) from entering Ecuador and affecting the country's banana plantations.

Morales said they had spoken with the concessionaires of the provincial roads to establish a sanitary control of the vehicles through swimming pools with fungicides.

The Minister of Agriculture, Xavier Lazo Guerrero, said that early warning systems on fusariosis were being developed at the national level with the aim of strengthening biosafety systems in the country.

He also spoke about the situation of banana trees due to bacterial moko, which has mainly affected plantations in the region of Esmeraldas. The Government intends to deliver meristems to the small producers that were affected by this plague.
