“The Coca-Cola Co. has always stood for optimism at times of change and progress around the world,” said Muhtar Kent, chairman and chief executive officer. “From the fall of the Berlin Wall to the establishment of normal U.S. relations with Vietnam to the positive changes we are seeing today in Myanmar, Coca-Cola has proudly been there to refresh, invest, partners and bring hope for a better tomorrow.”
The company plans to develop business in Myanmar after the U.S. government issues a general license allowing American companies to make investments. The company anticipates making significant investments in the country during the next three to five years with plans to establish local business relationships and work with local customer partners. Myanmar is currently one of three countries in the world where Coca-Cola doesn’t do business with the other two being Cuba and North Korea.
